Sula Bassana is the solo project of German multi-instrumentalist and producer Dave Schmidt, best known for his work with bands such as Electric Moon, Zone Six and Interkosmos. Schmidt has been playing music since the early 1980s and has been active under the name Sula Bassana since the early 2000s.
The name carries a story of its own. Sula bassana is the ornithological name of the northern gannet and bass was Dave's instrument for ten years with Liquid Visions.
Under this name he creates an unmistakable blend of psychedelic rock, space rock, electronic music and experimental soundscapes. His recordings range from hypnotic, kraut inspired journeys to dense walls of psychedelic guitars, analogue electronics and atmospheric textures.
Sula Bassana’s music is largely created and recorded by Dave Schmidt himself. He combines guitars, bass, synthesizers, drums, effects and electronic instruments into extended compositions that often unfold organically rather than following conventional song structures.
Music for drifting through space, losing all sense of time and exploring the unknown.
