Space Rock · Psychedelic Rock · Neo-Psychedelia
Sun Dial were founded in England in 1990 by Gary Ramon and have since been one of the most prolific and stylistically versatile projects in the British psych and space rock scene. Every album sounds a little different. The debut Other Way Out is acid rock, while other albums lean towards stoner, shoegaze, cosmic electronics or krautrock. What remains constant is Gary Ramon's unerring feel for sound, atmosphere and the grand gesture.
Ramon had already started in the 1980s under the name The Modern Art before founding Sun Dial so he could finally play live. After several successful early albums and a long hiatus during which he produced other bands and ran his own Acme Records, he returned in the 2000s with his ambient krautrock project Quad. Several of his strongest releases from recent years have appeared on Sulatron Records for example the progressive electronic album Science Fiction (2018), the acclaimed double album Made In The Machine (2016), the Ultimate Edition of Mind Control (2020), as well as the Quad vinyl reissue (2017). Together they form an impressive document of a long, idiosyncratic career.
Music for those who like british space rock without blinkers and with plenty of history in tow.
