Sci-fi films without visuals but with sound. Science Fiction is a collection of previously unreleased instrumental soundtrack compositions spanning over two decades of Sun Dial history, post-processed, embellished with new overdubs and remixed. The result is not a classic Sun Dial album but rather a cinematic side project by Gary Ramon. Twelve (or thirteen on the CD version) short sonic films that together form a nearly one hour-long journey through imaginary space landscapes.

The opener Hangar 13 begins in a droning and hazy manner, reminiscent of a Gerry Anderson intro, before the funky Mind Machine shifts direction with its space-disco groove. Saturn Return moves into synth-oriented territory while Alien X remains dark and cinematic and Rise Of The Robots showcases Sun Dial's take on Kraftwerk. Airlock briefly grounds the album with space rock energy before Ghost Ship drifts into Darth Vader territory and the final track Starwatchers brings the set to a trippy and hypnotic close.

Whether as an entry point into Sun Dial's sound world or as a complement to their discography, Science Fiction is an ideal album for anyone who appreciates Gary Ramon's ability to paint moods that lie far beyond the mundane.
