Quad was the secret solo project of Gary Ramon, the mastermind behind Sun Dial, created during his six-year hiatus from his main project in the early 1990s. The project name stems from a personal story. As a child, Ramon plugged his cassette recorder into his father’s high-end Quad stereo system to make recordings with his later Sun Dial companion, Anthony Clough. The project was originally called Liquid before it became Quad.
The first, self-titled album was released in 1997 in a limited edition on his own label, Acme Records, on crystal-clear vinyl with transparent sleeves, limited to 1,000 copies and sold out quickly. The second Quad album followed in 1998 on Prescription Records, also extremely limited. Both albums became sought-after collector's items. In 2017, Sulatron Records released the first album as a regular vinyl reissue for the first time on orange 180 gram vinyl, limited to 500 copies, making one of the rarest documents from Gary Ramon's body of work accessible once again.
Music for contemplative moments, expansive headphone listening and anyone who wants to know what Gary Ramon does when no one is watching.
