What happens when you put five Estonian musicians of diverse backgrounds (record collectors, DJs, street and classical musicians) in a rehearsal room and press the record button? Estrada Orchestra answers this question on Playground with two live improvisations, each lasting about twenty minutes, recorded on November 21, 2020, at the Ganna & Sofia Playground Dance Workshop in Tallinn.

Somewhere between the relaxed Sun Ra Arkestra and the very early Tangerine Dream, a meditative flow of tenor saxophone, flute, synthesizer, Wurlitzer, bass, and percussion unfolds, knowing no haste and aiming precisely for that: to detach the listener from everyday life and let them drift away. Playground Part 1 builds gently and fluidly, while Parts 2 & 3 condense and intensify the soundscape, without ever becoming loud or urgent. Sound sculptures, shadowy melodies, tentative rhythms are the coordinates of this album.

Playground is Estrada Orchestra's fifth album, and also their debut on Sulatron Records. Produced by Misha Panfilov, mastered by Jörgen Hermaste.
