Jazz · Psychedelic · Avant-Groove · Improvisation
Estrada Orchestra was founded in Tallinn in 2013 as a jam band. The band consists of a circle of record collectors, street musicians, DJs, and classically trained musicians who met for a jam session and realized that something more could come of it. What began as a mixture of repetitive funk à la Bohannon and free jazz à la Ornette Coleman has continued to evolve over the years toward spacey, cosmic music.
The quintet consists of Misha Panfilov (bass, percussion, production), Volodja Brodsky (synthesizer, Wurlitzer, organ), Sasha Petrov (tenor saxophone, percussion), Ilja Gussarov (flute) and Madis Katkosilt (drums, percussion). Misha Panfilov and Volodja Brodsky are also at the core of Centre El Muusa, the psychedelic krautrock quartet that also released music on Sulatron Records. Both projects share the same spirit of openness, improvisation and the conviction that music is most alive when it is created in the moment.
Playground (2021), their first album on Sulatron Records, was recorded during a single concert in Tallinn in November 2020. It features two completely improvised tracks, recorded live with no overdubs, in which the spirits of Sun Ra, John Coltrane, and early Tangerine Dream meet.
Music for anyone who like cosmic jazz, meditative funk and groovy stillness.
