The Glitter Odd

It took 22 years for Saturnia's debut album to find its way onto vinyl. The Glitter Odd was initially released on CD by Cranium Music in New Zealand in 2001, reissued on CD by Elektrohasch Schallplatten in Germany in 2009, and now receives its first ever LP release via Sulatron, specifically remastered for vinyl and limited to 300 copies.
It sounds timeless, and it is. Luís Simões recorded, produced, and mixed The Glitter Odd entirely by himself. What emerges is not an album that can be clearly categorized: trippy synths, tribal percussion, drone guitars, theremin, and floating vocals combine to create a soundscape that could just as easily come from the early seventies as from 2001 – or from the future.
Chrysalis and Bliss draw the listener in with pulsating grooves and organic sound textures. Still Life and A Trick Of The Light showcase the more meditative, psych-folk side. Menadel opens the B-side with trip-hop beats and futuristic synths, Organo and Borealis deepen the cosmic-cinematic mood, before the title track The Glitter Odd concludes the album with a strange, electronically colored experiment. A debut that has lost none of its impact.
