The Death and Resurrection of Krautrock: Omega

Edition: 500
Omega is the third and final installment of the trilogy The Death And Resurrection Of Krautrock and the Croatian quartet from Zagreb presents a worthy conclusion. What initially sounds like an ironic self-designation turns out to be something quite different upon listening. Seven That Spells do not play Krautrock à la Faust or Can but rather a powerfully polished variation of space rock.
Three shorter pieces are grouped around the two core compositions Omega and Future Lords, each of which burrows into psychedelic layers for more than ten minutes. On drums sits Blake Fleming, a founding member of The Mars Volta. Together with the bass he forms a tight rhythm section that drives the band relentlessly forward, while the almost sacral vocal lines and guitars of Gordan Tomić and Niko Potočnjak build a dark atmosphere oscillating between mysticism and intensity.
Fresh, energetic and with a distinctive sound that mediates between America and Europe, Seven That Spells consistently concludes their trilogy, leaving behind a work that, despite all its uncompromising nature, never becomes boring.
