The Death and Resurrection of Krautrock: Omega
Published on
Edition: 500
Omega is the third and final installment of the trilogy The Death And Resurrection Of Krautrock – and the Croatian quartet from Zagreb delivers a worthy conclusion. What initially sounds like an ironic self-designation turns out to be something entirely different upon listening: Seven That Spells don't play Krautrock à la Faust or Can, but a powerfully polished variant of Space Rock.
Grouped around the two core compositions Omega and Future Lords, which each burrow into psychedelic layers for over ten minutes, are three shorter pieces. A tight rhythm section of drums and bass relentlessly drives the band forward, while the sacral-sounding vocal lines and guitars of Gordan Tomić and Niko Potočnjak build a dark atmosphere, oscillating between mysticism and intensity.
Fresh, energetic, and with a distinctive sound that mediates between America and Europe, Seven That Spells consistently concludes their trilogy, leaving behind a work that, despite all its uncompromising nature, never bores.
