Tanzlinde is the debut album released in 2016 by the Italian quintet Sherpa from Abruzzo, created between 2014 and 2016 in the Pomaro Studios, "where the mountains touch the sky". The title refers to a lime tree, under whose leaves one traditionally finds peace and returns to oneself. An image that shapes the entire sound of the album.
Across ten tracks, the band combines psychedelic sixties influences in the style of Popol Vuh and early Amon Düül II with Eastern-inspired chants, gentle folk, and a slightly progressive touch. Guitars, bass, loops, synthesizers, xylophone, harmonium, and various hand drums merge into a warm, shimmering soundscape, supported by haunting, often multi-voiced vocal harmonies, enhanced by numerous guest female vocalists. Tracks like Sherpa and Big Foot build an almost North African-like trance atmosphere, while Of Coke And Steel leads into more melancholic, introspective realms.
Tanzlinde is a remarkably mature debut that combines gentle psychedelic, world music influences, and Krautrock heritage into its very own, tranquil sonic cosmos.
