Stranded in the Green

25 years after Saturnia's foundation, Luís Simões celebrates his anniversary in the only meaningful way: with a new album. Stranded In The Green is the eighth full-length work by the Lisbon multi-instrumentalist, recorded far from the city, in the wine-growing hills and olive groves of the Portuguese countryside, mostly solo and partly under the open sky.

Mythological allusions, psychedelic contemplation, and a boundless instrumental range characterize the album from beginning to end. Pan Arrives opens with occult-sounding cowbells, before Keep It Long shines in full glory with sitar, djembe, Mellotron, and reversed guitars. Fibonacci Numbers drifts dreamily and patiently, Smoking In The Sun is the meditative centerpiece, the over thirteen-and-a-half-minute Super Natural celebrates three mythological patron gods of Portugal. Butterfly Collector and the concluding, CD-exclusive Just Let Yourself Go round off the album with spacey guitar soundscapes.
