Laughter

With Laughter, a/lpaca present their second album and impressively demonstrate why the Italian band has become one of the most exciting representatives of the European psychedelic scene in recent years.

Even on their debut Make It Better, also released by Sulatron Records, the quartet from Mantua combined Krautrock motorik, psychedelic guitars, and the energy of modern post-punk and noise bands to create a unique sound. On Laughter, this approach is consistently further developed. The songs appear more focused, the arrangements more complex, and the dynamic between driving and experimental openness is even more pronounced.

Where many current psych bands rely exclusively on hypnotic repetition, a/lpaca create a significantly broader arc of tension. Pulsating rhythms meet harsh guitars, dense synthesizer pads meet catchy melodies. Again and again, moments arise in which the pieces seemingly dissolve, only to return shortly after with new intensity.

Despite all its stylistic diversity, Laughter possesses a remarkably coherent character. Krautrock, neo psychedelia, post-punk, and noise are not simply placed side by side, but are combined into an organic whole. The band sounds modern and contemporary, without denying its roots.

Laughter is an album full of movement, contrasts, and energy. Sometimes hypnotic and atmospheric, sometimes direct and almost explosive, it unfolds new facets with each listen. A brave step forward for a/lpaca and another strong statement from a band that has found its own path within the European psychedelic landscape.
