Gulo Gulo

The western capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) meets the wolverine (Gulo gulo), a dramatic encounter between two animals in the nocturnal forest, amidst fog, rain and lightning. This is exactly the concept behind the band's second album and the music makes the title ring truely dark, suspenseful and driving.

Dennis Rux and David Nesselhauf have significantly expanded their sound arsenal for Gulo Gulo. In addition to guitar and bass, they are joined by saxophone (Mark Norton), trumpet (Jan Schepmann), Philicorda and Moog (Chris Haertel) as well as drums (Corneel Canters). The result is a completely instrumental album that oscillates between psychedelic doom-funk, proto-metal and prog excursions. The B-side is entirely filled by a multi-part epic that encapsulates all the album’s moods. Threatening and funky at once with sudden hard interruptions and long, cinematic passages.

Recorded at Yeah! Yeah! Studios in Hamburg, a studio that has been damaged twice by flooding and explosions since the band’s inception, yet continues to exsist.
