Gulo Gulo

The capercaillie (Tetrao Urogallus) meets the wolverine (Gulo Gulo) – a dramatic encounter of two animals in the nocturnal forest, in fog, rain, and lightning. This is exactly the concept behind the second album of the Hamburg band, and the music literally lives up to the title: dark, suspenseful, driving.
Dennis Rux and David Nesselhauf have significantly expanded their sound arsenal for Gulo Gulo: In addition to guitar and bass, saxophone (Mark Norton), trumpet (Jan Schepmann), Philicorda and Moog (Chris Haertel) as well as drums (Corneel Canters) have been added. The result is a fully instrumental album that oscillates between psychedelic doom-funk, protometal, and prog excursions. The B-side is entirely filled by a multi-part epic that summarizes all the moods of the album: menacing and funky at the same time, with abruptly harsh inserts and long, cinematic passages.
Recorded at the Yeah! Yeah! Studios in Hamburg, a studio that has been damaged twice by floods and explosions since the band's inception and yet continues to exist.
