CV Sessions

CV here stands for two things: Corona Virus and Control Voltage, the analogue connection technology that Sula Bassana used to wire and modulate his equipment together during the long lockdown months of 2020. CV Sessions is a pandemic album that bears this name without ever sounding depressed or hopeless. Rather, it sounds like a stream of consciousness from his home studio, recorded simply and directly, without much thought.

From the first to the last track, Sula Bassana takes us through a world of small analogue synthesizers, drum machines, a Prophet-600 polysynth, a Crumar String Ensemble, Casio SK 1 and SK 60, Stylophone, Mellotron, guitars and bass. An arsenal that in his hands never sounds like a demonstration of equipment, but always like music. A Nice Constellation Of The Planets opens with cosmic energy, wtf? with drones. Wollschweber, Ruins Of Civilisation and Foggy Forest sink into darker, atmospheric layers. They Have Landed And They Come In Colours briefly brings out the sun, before Der Traurige Essigfisch finally lets the year 2020 sink into gloom.

Mastered by Eroc. The track What Is Reality? doesn't fit on the CD and is therefore included as a download code. An honest, idiosyncratic and surprisingly touching album in its immediacy.
