Space Rock · Psychedelic Rock · Neo-Psychedelia
Strobe were formed in Hertfordshire in 1990 and are considered by connoisseurs to be one of the best British space rock bands that ever existed as well as one of the most underrated. At a time when the musical zeitgeist was defined by grunge and techno, Mitch (guitar, vocals), Loz (guitar), John (guitar, keyboards), Ben (bass) and Rupert (drums) played a hypnotic, loop-inspired three-guitar space rock that was second to none. Five official albums and three EPs later, they played their final concert in 2001.
The Bunker Sessions are a stroke of luck. Recorded live in 1994 at the Bunker Studios in Bedford, between The Circle Never Ends and the later Alienation album, during a phase when the band's sound was at its most mature and direct. Not a single overdub, just three guitars, bass, drums and a tape machine recording everything. The recordings slumbered for almost 25 years before Sulatron Records released them on vinyl and CD for the first time in 2017. Sun Birth, Chameleon Earth, the narcotic Opium Dreams and the collapsed Sun Death, all in one undertow that shows why this band should have actually been better known back then.
Music for those who want to know what british space rock could sound like in the early 90s without commercial pressure.
