The Øresund Space Collective (ØSC) is one of the most prolific and boundary crossing improvisation collectives in the European underground. Founded in April 2004 by American Scott “Dr. Space” Heller, the collective brings together musicians from both sides of the Øresund, alternating between sessions in Malmö and Copenhagen.
There is no fixed lineup. Over the years nearly 60 musicians have passed through, drawn from bands such as The Carpet Knights, Mantric Muse, Bland Bladen, Gas Giant, Hooffoot, First Band from Outer Space, Siena Root, My Brother the Wind, Agusa, Tangle Edge, The Univerzals, Papir and Black Moon Circle. In 2022 the multi instrumentalists Mattias Olsson (Ånglagård, Molesome) and Luís Simões (Saturnia) joined, the latter also a Sulatron artist.
Every session sounds different. The music moves freely between space rock, psychedelia, funk, jazz, reggae and stoner rock, driven entirely by collective improvisation with no fixed songs and no setlists.
The collective played its first concert in February 2005 and has been a formidable live act ever since. By 2017 ØSC had played more than 100 concerts in ten countries, among them Roadburn, Roskilde, the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Burg Herzberg, Freak Valley, Reverence in Portugal and Psycho Las Vegas. Dr. Space has since moved to Portugal, but the collective continues to record and tour.
Their first CD appeared in 2006 on the Swedish label Transubstans. Today almost everything comes out on Space Rock Productions and the catalogue has grown to more than thirty studio albums and over a dozen live records.
Their Sulatron release Inside Your Head was recorded in November 2006 at Black Tornado Studio in Copenhagen and mixed at Nacksving Studio in Gothenburg. The CD collage was assembled and edited by Sula Bassana himself. A natural connection between two corners of the same psychedelic universe.
Music for losing the thread, merging into the cosmos and letting the collective take control.
