UFO Over Lapland

High up in Swedish Lapland, in Umeå, somewhere between the Northern Lights, white snow and howling blizzards, four musicians recorded long hypnotic Krautrock sessions. The result: UFO Över Lappland, originally released on cassette in 2016 with only 50 copies, both editions selling out immediately. The 2018 Sulatron CD release finally opened up the self-titled debut to a wider audience.
Five completely instrumental tracks between six and twelve minutes long unfold a sound that connects Hawkwind directly with the motorik pulse of Neu! The opener Keep On Keepin' On Space Truckin' starts with twelve minutes as a programmatic statement: a tightly compact Krautrock groove that propels forward like a mercurial drive. JaEDeJae is funkier and edgier, Podzol is more tribal and reminiscent of Tangerine Dream, Nothing That Lives Has... Such Eyes! once again pushes with Hawkwind energy. As a CD bonus track, Lemmy On The Beach, as hot as its namesake, rounds off the picture.
Seldom does a debut sound so mature and distinctive. Terrascope simply called it one of the best debut albums in the genre. There is nothing more to add.
UFO Över Lappland are
