UFO Över Lapland

High up in Umeå, Swedish Lapland somewhere between northern lights, white snow and howling blizzards, four musicians recorded long, hypnotic krautrock sessions. The result was UFO Över Lappland, originally released in 2016 on cassette in an edition of just 50 copies with both pressings selling out immediately. The 2018 Sulatron CD release introduces the self-titled debut to a wider audience for the first time.

Five entirely instrumental tracks between six and twelve minutes long unfold a sound that connects the motoric pulse of Neu! directly with Hawkwind. The opener Keep On Keepin' On Space Truckin' kicks off with twelve minutes as a programmatic statement. A tightly compact Krautrock groove that spirals forward like a mercurial engine. JaEDeJae is funkier and edgier, Podzol more tribal and reminiscent of Tangerine Dream, while Nothing That Lives Has... Such Eyes! drives forward with renewed Hawkwind energy.

Rarely does a debut sound so mature and independent. Terrascope simply called it one of the best debut albums of the genre.
