THTX are a psychedelic space rock duo from Detroit, Michigan formed in 2001 when guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Matthew Smith and drummer Kerry Gluckman met at a party and began jamming together. No agreements on musical direction before a session. Everything that happens, happens.
Through a series of self-released CDRs and four official albums THTX have developed a sound situated at the intersection of space rock, krautrock and free jazz. Raw and driven exclusively by improvisation. Matthew Smith plays guitar, bass, organ and trumpet himself, while Kerry Gluckman drives the sessions on drums and percussion. Occasionally other musicians join in but the core duo remains constant.
