Space Rock · Psychedelic Rock · Shoegaze
Polska Radio One are not from Poland. The name is a deliberate misdirection. The quartet of Dmitry, Alexander, Andrei and Feodor hails from Yekaterinburg in the Russian Urals, a city you wouldn't necessarily expect to be a center of the psychedelic underground, but which it was, for a few years at least. Formed around 2012, the four young musicians rapidly evolved from an erratic garage rock collective into one of the most interesting psych bands in Eastern Europe before breaking up in 2015.
Their sound on Early Broadcasts is atmospheric, meditative and features distinctive, almost monk-like vocals. Gentle fade-ins, swaying grooves, sitar, saxophone and echoed voices over a space rock foundation that is as reminiscent of early Pink Floyd as it is of Ozric Tentacles or early shoegaze. The recordings date from 2012 to 2014 and the cover art was designed by Lulu Artwork from Electric Moon.
Music for quiet hours, open windows and the question of what Yekaterinburg sounds like at night.
