Psychedelic Rock · Psych-Pop · Canterbury Prog
Since their highly acclaimed debut Beyond These Things (2014), Permanent Clear Light have been considered Finland's leading psychedelic rock band. The trio of Markku Helin (lead guitar, synthesizers, Jyväskylä), Arto Kakko (drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, Helsinki) and Matti Laitinen (vocals, synthesizers, percussion, based in Madrid) views the recording studio as their primary instrument. Layer by layer, they create multi-part, atmospheric arrangements that combine sweet melodies with subversive, ironic lyrics.
Releases on Sulatron Records to date include Cosmic Comics (2020), which is shaped by 60s psychedelia and features the opener This Quiet Smiling Man as a tribute to Robert Oppenheimer and the cosmic disco groove of Maurice N'est Pas Là, and Right As Rain (2023), which dives deeper into Canterbury prog and melodic pop without losing its witty, sometimes bitingly cynical undertone. Both albums were mastered by Eroc.
Music for those who like psych melodic, literary and a bit darker behind the radiant facade.
