Minami Deutsch

🇯🇵

2017 – 2017

Krautrock · Psychedelic Rock · Post-Rock

Minami Deutsch (in Japanese 南ドイツ, which simply means "South Germany") was founded in 2014 by guitarist and singer Kyotaro Miula in Shibuya, Tokyo. This band from Japan plays compelling, driving Krautrock that sounds as if it was created somewhere between Düsseldorf in 1972 and the 2015 Tokyo Psych Fest. Miula and his bandmates describe themselves as "repetition freaks." They are for fans of minimal techno and krautrock legends like Neu! and Can, who place the motorik beat at the center of their music and never budge from it.

Their debut was released in 2015, initially on vinyl via Cardinal Fuzz and on cassette via Guruguru Brain, the label of Kikagaku Moyo, with whom Minami Deutsch also toured. Sulatron Records released the album on CD for the first time in 2017, making it accessible to a wider european audience. Pitchfork magazine praised their "unique approach to repetition and atmosphere" and they performed at the Roadburn Festival alongside Can vocalist Damo Suzuki. What a meeting of two worlds, worthy of mutual respect.

Music for those who know that Krautrock does not necessarily have to come from Germany.
