Psychedelic · Space Rock · Krautrock
Lava are a psychedelic jam band from Gothenburg, Sweden, formed in 2003 when a loose collective of musicians came together simply to have fun and fully explore their potential. After years of live performances at conventional and unconventional venues throughout Sweden and several lineup changes, the band settled into a rotating ensemble of seven to eight members.
Their music is rooted in free improvisation driven by twin guitars, hypnotic and deeply organic. Influences range from American West Coast psychedelia and Canterbury prog to Scandinavian space rock and krautrock, with a trance-like quality and jazzy undertones that set them apart from many of their Swedish contemporaries. Think of the Øresund Space Collective but with a stronger inclination toward krautrock and a wilder, more unpredictable energy.
Music for getting lost in the groove and never quite finding the way back.
