Psychedelic Rock Β· Space Rock Β· Krautrock
Hills are a trio from Gothenburg, Sweden, formed around 2006 by Hanna (drums), Kalle (bass, guitar, organ, flute) and Pelle (guitar). They make music for themselves. No promotion, no commercial ambitions, no setlists. Just three people in a room playing psychedelic rock with a raw Krautrock edge and occasional flute lines cutting through the fuzz like something from a completely different era.
Their self-titled debut was recorded in 2008 at Element Studio with Robert Gustavsson, originally released in 2009 on Intergalactic Tactics Records in a limited edition of 300 copies. Sold out immediately! Sulatron Records reissued the album in 2010, expanded by one previously unreleased studio track and one track that had previously only appeared on cassette.
The music sits somewhere between the drone aesthetic of the Velvet Underground, the Cosmic Jokers and the earliest, most unpolished Krautrock recordings, correspondingly raw and with a genuine sense of mystery. Scene critics have consistently noted that Hills are probably the band of recent years that come closest to the spirit of the original krautrock movement.
Music for long, dark evenings, incense sticks and the feeling that something strange is about to happen.
