Giöbia

🇮🇹

2013 – 2015

Psychedelic Rock · Heavy Psych · Space Rock

Giöbia hail from Milan and have been a staple of the European psych-rock scene since the mid-2000s. Their name is derived from an ancient pre-Christian festival celebrated in northern Italy. It is a nod to the band's sonic aesthetic which is deeply rooted in mythology and ritual. The quartet consists of Bazu (vocals, string instruments), Saffo (organ, violin, vocals), Detrji (bass) and Betta (drums).

Their music seeks the natural link between the excess culture of the hippie era and the raw energy of punk. Dissonant, reverb-drenched sound weaves guitar and Farfisa riffs with obsessive bass and drum lines. Introducing Night Sound (2013) and the highly acclaimed Magnifier (2015) on which the over 15-minute track Sun Spectre is considered one of Sulatron Record's highlights. Although Giöbia mainly tour and perform in Germany and Northern Europe, they are one of the few true representatives of a psychedelic scene in their hometown of Milan.

Music for those who like psych rock with a bit of darkness, a bit of grit and plenty of vintage organ.
