The Elara Sunstreak Band was founded in Heilbronn in 2012 and has since been one of the most consistent and idiosyncratic psych rock bands in Southern Germany. The core of the band consists of brothers Daniel Wieland (bass, vocals) and Martin Wieland (drums, percussion), complemented by guitarist Felix Schmidt. For studio albums and selected live performances, they are joined by Christian Wick on Hammond organ, Mellotron and Fender Rhodes, a musical colour that significantly shapes the band's sound.
Extended, epic tracks ranging from sixteen to twenty minutes, progressive structures that unfold organically and a sound reminiscent of Pink Floyd, Hawkwind and King Buffalo alike, without pinning itself down to any one style. In 2021, Vostok 1 was released on Sulatron Records. Four tracks spanning 72 minutes, named after Yuri Gagarin's spaceflight in 1961. Enthusiastically received by the german and european music press, it was celebrated as one of the strongest psych rock albums of the year. The double LP on yellow vinyl followed as a reissue in 2022.
A band that deserves more attention.
