Citrus Citrus was formed in 2020 in Padua, Northern Italy. It was founded by guitarists Lorenzo Badin and Luca Zantomio, who initially improvised as an instrumental duo. A little later bassplayer Enrico Maragno and drummer Marco Buffetti joined. The quintet found its final form when singer and producer Thomas Powell joined the band, adding another dimension to the sound.
Their debut album Albedo Massima, released in December 2023 on Sulatron Records, revolves around the theme of metamorphosis. Greek and Latin myths provide the framework in which the band anchors its sound concepts. The pomelo on the cover is one of the three ancestral citrus fruits from which all others originated through natural crossbreeding. A symbol of transformation, hybridity and origin that fits the band's approach perfectly.
Musically, Citrus Citrus operate in a field that the band itself describes as Desert Slinky Hypnagogic Psych. Desert-like, trance-inducing with a strong sense of hypnotic groove and atmospheric depth. Recorded by Cristopher Bacco, mixed and produced by Thomas Powell himself.
Music for anyone who likes psych mythologically underpinned and with a touch of Southern Italian sun in the sound.
